Your Hearing Journey
Step 1 – Testing Your Hearing
Our hearing test usually takes about an hour, this allows us time to fully listen to you, to carry out the various measurements, and to properly explain them to you. It is really useful if you can bring a family member or friend with you to the consultation, we would definitely encourage it.
Our Audiologist will ask some questions about your general health, hearing and family history to build up a picture of your needs. This is your opportunity to tell us what is troubling you, times when you struggle and what outcomes you hope for.
The Audiologist will then examine your ears to assess their health internally and externally and may conduct a test to check the condition of the middle ear, the mobility of the eardrum and the conduction bones.
You will then be asked to listen to sounds through either ‘over the ear’ or ‘in-ear’ headphones to find out what you can and cannot hear. Our entire consultation room is soundproofed so you won’t need to go into a small booth.
You may also be asked to listen to speech in varying degrees of background noise, and to repeat back what you can hear.
The Audiologist will then explain the results and what they mean for you and your lifestyle. They will recommend a treatment pathway which may or may not include hearing aids.
If hearing aids are recommended then you will be able to find out about all the options available to you, and any concerns can be addressed. We are open about our pricing, so you will receive a quote with all the details noted. At Ash Hearing Centre you will never be ‘sold to’, ‘pressurised’ or ‘persuaded’ to make a decision you didn’t want to make. Our clients enjoy an exceptional level of care and attention at all times.
Step 2 – Order and Fitting
If you do decide to place an order, your instruments can arrive within a couple of days and we will contact you to come in for your fitting appointment. This lasts 30-60 minutes depending on your prior experience of hearing aids. You will be shown how to wear your new devices, how to charge them up or change batteries, how to clean and care for them. There will be some tests carried out to ensure the hearing aids are set at a level that is comfortable and helpful for you; for new users we can keep the amplification low until you get used to your new sound, and then gradually turn it up.
Step 3 – 45 Day Trial Period
It’s over to you to road test your new devices at home, work, in the pub, at family gatherings – wherever you are going! We offer a 45 day trial so that you can be fully confident that you have made the right decision. During this time we will meet you a couple of times to respond to any queries or concerns you may have, and to check that you are making the most of the features of the hearing aids. Once you are satisfied that you are benefitting from your new system, and you are comfortable with all the options, the invoice can be settled and we will arrange to see you for a check up in 6 months time, unless you need us sooner.
Step 4 – After Care
After your initial period of fitting and trialling, we will offer you a 6 month check up and an annual check up in each year of your cover (duration depends on package selected).
If you need us for any reason before your check up is due, you are more than welcome to call us or to pop in and have a chat. If you need supplies of batteries, maybe something isn’t working or you have forgotten how to use a feature of your devices, we can either arrange an appointment or help over the phone if appropriate.
For all hearing aid packages we include wax removal in the cost, so if your ears are blocked let us know and we will arrange an appointment.
We are here for you to help you hear better, so keeping in regular contact is important from both points of view.
